As a result of legislative changes made under the Local Government and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2012 (LGOLA Act 2012) and associated regulation changes the department is currently undertaking a full review of its web pages and resources.

Local Government Act 2009

The Local Government Act 2009 (LGA) came into operation from 1 July 2010.

A range of amendments to the LGA commenced on 22 November 2012 with the introduction of the Local Government and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2012 (LGOLA Act 2012). A copy of the LGOLA Act 2012 and explanatory notes are available on the Office of Parliamentary Counsel’s website at www.legislation.qld.gov.au:

To complement these amendments to the LGA the regulations have also been reviewed and consolidated. The Local Government Regulation 2012 commenced on 14 December 2012 following Governor in Council approval.

City of Brisbane Act 2010

The City of Brisbane Act 2010 (CoBA) which commenced on 1 July 2010, provides governance arrangements exclusively for Brisbane City Council.

CoBA is also amended by the LGOLA Act 2012.

The CoBA regulations have also been reviewed and consolidated with the City of Brisbane Regulation 2012 commencing 14 December 2012.

Local Government Electoral Act 2011

The Local Government Electoral Act 2011 (LGEA 2011) commenced on Thursday 1 September 2011. It provides for the transparent conduct of elections of councillors to Queensland's local governments.

LGEA 2011 is also amended by the LGOLA Act 2012.
